I'd narrow my five to these (Jeesh, this IS hard!)
-Hey Jude (Beatles) I think it's representative of the finest the Beatles had to offer all in one number.
- Like A Rolling Stone (Dylan) Best Dylan had to offer in this period and one of the finest anti estableshment songs ever
- See Me,Feel Me /Listening to You (The WHO) The shape of things to come where the WHO were concerned.
- Jackson (Johnny Cash/ June Carter)- Easy to see why these two were soulmates by listening to this track! (esp. the FOLSOM PRISON version)
-Volunteers (Jefferson Airplane)Sums up San Fran and the West Coast hippies in one three minute rocker.

My MOST REVILED 60s band was The Lovin'Spoonful...i just hate everything they did.
c'mon!! Summer in The City and Nashville Cats? How in the world can you hate those songs? As for the rest of the spoonful's tunes...I see what you mean.

For the record, Bravo Coast of Utopia! Bravo Ed Stern & The Cincy Playhouse on Company! Bravo Journey's End! Bravo Frank Langella whose speech was eloquent and and elegant and who is just a class act all the way!
I just haven't kept up with it this year, so I don't have much of an opinion on it (hence nothing on it on my spot- but I am surprised no one commented on the other site- come to think of it, it's been kinda dead too. I guess it's just a busy time of year!)
I did see where UTOPIA racked up! I'll have to check that one out. It's been so damned long since I've been to NYC I forgot what the place looks like...used to go a couple of times a year, but ever since my brother moved away from there, I haven't been back. I need to get back there before too long.
UTOPIA has ended its run. I just read the trilogy. Very compelling. Pretty impossible to mount unless you have a major entity like The National Theatre or Lincoln Centre behind it. Saw Frost/Nixon and Journey's End both in London. Both great! Langella's Nixon was brilliant.

How does Frost / Nixon compare with Nixon's Nixon a few years back? I really liked that script.
I never saw or read Nixon's Nixon, but I'm not one who generally cottons to "politically"-themed shows particularly (thought there are those who say all theatre is political). But I went to this one because it had gotten so much incredible hype, brilliant reviews, and I like both the performers. I saw Michael Sheen do AMADEUS in a Peter Hall revival (with David Suchet as Salieri) several years ago and had also enjoyed some of his film work). And I am a huge fan of Langella's, who I've seen several times on stage: Liasion Dangereuse, Scenes From An Execution, Strindberg's The Father. He has often written articles for Equity News (one particular touching one about working with the late Alan Bates shortly before he passed away) which always evoke an actor who is not ashamed of his profession, but loves and respects it and is proud to be an actor. I just feel he's an actor's actor.
So on the strength of all that, I went and saw it. It was one of the best things we saw last November in what was a very strong theatre trip. Both men were terrific and Langella, without doing an imitation or a chariacture, captured the Nixon of that period with great sensitivity, depth, and humanity. It almost made me want to wait at the stage-door and gush like a soppy fan when he came out.
One of those great evenings in the theatre!

i just get shivers when i hear that song in particuliar.

I realize most on my list are bubble gum pop tunes, but there is something ironic about the those pop songs and the time period they were released that makes them attractive. They also have pretty cool hooks.
