"Hallelujah, Noel..."

Greetings Divas!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas celebration. I know it's not "fashionable" for a good liberal such as myself to bestow Christmas wishes on anyone, but to heck with it! It's what I celebrate, and I'm gonna wish you a happy one whether you want it or not! I also have to tell, there is absolutely NOTHING in this world so wonderful as seeing Christmas morning through the eyes of a child. Santa was very generous to the Wolverine this year (not TOO generous, as we're trying to avoid making this time of year completely about "gimmie gimmie") and he has been wide eyed and over the moon all day. Whatever troubles I've been ruminating on have evaporated under the warmth of seeing my son so incredibly joyful. It is indeed a blessing from God.

If you have any glad tidings or thoughts on the new year you'd like to share, feel free. Meantime, here's our topic-

What are you MOST looking forward to in the new year?

Write it down...and Merry Christmas to all, and to all ...a good night!

I have no problem wishing anyone "Happy Christmas" either; except that I say "Happy Holidays" solely as a nose-thumb to Bill O' Reilly and his bogus, trumped-up non-issue, "WAR ON CHRISTMAS" fantasy he keeps trying to tell us is out there.

I'll be looking forward to another production of my TARTUFFE adaptation being done out in California this coming year and to getting some writing done this year.

Yeah, I think the "War on Christmas" is alot of bunk too. But it does sort of annoy me that some people feel compelled to say HAPPY HOLIDAYS- Last time I checked, Dec 25th IS Christmas... although I can TOTALLY get behind thumbing the nose O'reilly!

December 25th is indeed Christmas and I also wish people Merry Christmas. But I also look at the time between Thanksgiving and New Year as an overall general festive holiday time, so even as Christmas comes, New Year is right behind it. Lots of people are off work. It's the season, not just Christmas, that's being celebrated.

I have one friend who always says "Happy Solistice", which I love. The Christians basically hijacked a pagan time of celebration and made it Christmas. They appropriated a lot of pagan holidays and converted them into Christian celebrations. Did you know that the pagan god, Mithras, was also supposed to have been born on Dec. 25th. And just whose calendar are we using exactly? It's gone through a lot of changes since Jesus' time.

I believe in celebrating the festvity of the season without necessarily being burdened by any religious underpinings. That way everyone can join in. I have Jewish friends who have Christmas parties. I don't mind if the occasion has become a little secularized (I'd rather have it secularized than the way it has become commercialized.) What I do hate is getting Christmas cards where someone has to remind me that "Jesus is the reason for the season."

I think even if we didn't have the excuse of Jesus, we'd still have a seasonal celebration at the end of the year. It goes back to the seasonal cycles. This is ritual marking of Winter before the renewal of Spring.

So, the coming year...

I have a little boy who, during the next year, will be... crawling, walking, uttering his first words, etc. I look forward to that.

My other little boy will be starting Kindergarten. That will be fun as well.

Generally, continuing to pursue plans laid out in the past and currently rolling ever-steadily forward.

Sure, there are more personal things. But that's personal.

Next year, instead of saying Merry Christmas and all, I'm just going to say the magic word: Cheeseburger.

Good points all, Chuck, particularly the need for everyone to feel free to join in.
And I as say, I don't buy the "war on Xmas" argument. I look around and see plenty of Christmas (at least here in this neck of the woods)
I also, however, don't buy the "it's all stolen from pagan blah blah blah" argument either. Best I recollect, that's the EXACT same line the fundamentalist wackos use to try and ban Halloween. "It's spawed from a SATANIC RITUAL, Day of the Dead, yadda yadda..." Nope- not anymore! NOW it's a day kids dress up like Power Rangers and Hanna Montana and go beg for candy. I don't really care what it was, I only care what it is now...To me, it's the same with Christmas. It's not what it was, but what it has become, and the opportunity to give thanks and reflect. The best line August Wilson's ever wrote(imho) was in the Piano Lesson, when Avery says "God don't ask what you DONE- he wants to know what you gonna DO!" Perhaps my love of that line explains my feelings toward the holiday...

BUT- tis the saeson to be jolly- so I'll all let you know that I'm looking forward to the following:
- The arival of my new baby girl! I can't wait to meet her...
- Getting to watch my son grow and learn, and the opportunity to try and be the best Father I can be.
- Actually getting to spend a few minutes of quality time with my wife!
- The continued growth of our new Theatre program at BCTC.
- Going to see THE BOSS in Cincy in March!!!! (Thanks, Santa!)

I am looking forward to seeing more theatre next year than I did this year.

I am looking forward to my first work with legitimate "headliners."

I am looking forward to my last year as a twenty-something.

I am looking forward to looking forward.

Im looking forward, to moving forward. The new year always reminds me that life is a continous stream....it never stops...and its best when we just roll with it.

The pregnancy is starting to get to that phase where i am ready and actually looking forward to giving birth....the best things are born out of hard work, so im expecting a humdinger of a "birthing party" on our journey to meet our baby girl. How exciting to see our family grow. Did you ever think this would all be happening 15 years ago????

IM looking forward to all the little surprises and turns that life always brings us. What would our life be without plans going up in smoke and chaos reigning supreme?

I look forward to discovering new things about us....and our finding the time to reconnect ....at least once in awhile...ha.

love you--happy new year!!

Happy Festivus!!!!

So, here it is I'm #11 X! A new year, a new beginning and all of that. I'm currently playing two small roles in a prodcution of Edmond in at the Carolina Actor's Studio Theatre. So, that's one thing trying to get on the boards a bit more. Have a new head shot and commercial reel so I will be trying to get in with a good agency here in Charlotte. There is a lot of opportunity for commercial, t.v. and film around here. If the writers ever quit striking.
Still trying to find my way here at Winthrop so, I hope to continue with the changes.

All is good.
All the best to everyone.
Peace,
D$
