All the trouble went away, and it wasn't just a dream"

So, tonight is our first preview performance of HOLIDAY MEMORIES at AGL. For a nice photo and a brief blurb, check out Lexington's own Rich Copley's site:
http://copiousnotes.typepad.com/

I'm as excited about this show as I have ever been about any piece I have worked on. It is technically beautiful and the acting is top notch. But don't take MY word for it...come check it out.
"Actors Guild of Lexington continues its 23rd season with Truman Capote’s heartfelt remembrance of youth, Holiday Memories, adapted by Russell Vandenbroucke. A sweet and wonderful look at the holiday season as only Truman Capote can provide. Holiday Memories takes two short memories of childhood by Capote, “The Thanksgiving Visitor” and “A Christmas Memory” and fashions a compelling tale of friendship, love, and fruitcake set in the southern Alabama of the early 1930s. Buddy (Shayne Brakefield) may be a lone child in a house of elderly adults, but having a child-like and loving aunt as his best friend opens him to holiday adventures and the simple lessons of the heart. Directed by AGL Associate Artist Tim X. Davis (Side Man, The Importance of Being Earnest), Holiday Memories also features Carmen Geraci as Truman, Lisa Osterman as Miss Sook, and Dave Dampier and Marcie Crim in a variety of roles. A holiday treat for the entire family, Holiday Memories celebrates love, family, and friendship and will have you calling your grandma to wish her a happy holiday season!

Previewing November 29-30, Holiday Memories opens December 1 and runs through December 23 at the Downtown Arts Center, 141 E Main Street in Lexington
."

In the spirit of all things Holiday... what's your top five favorite Christmas/Holiday songs? These can be standards, religious, show tunes, rockers, whatever...

Gimmie, gimmie... and btw...if you're involved in the show, no points awarded for the song lyric. Let's leave it to the civilians...

Patti Griffin, The Kite Song. One of my favorites, ever.

I love anything on the Nancy LaMott Xmas CD, but especially "Just in Time for Xmas" and "All Those Xmas Cliches." Both make me tear up.

Oh, and that Xmas song by the Waitresses, can't think of the name of the darn thing.

Y'all break your pea-pickin,' holly-entwined, mistletoed hearts!
I'm aiming to see you on Sunday.

Oops, I meant legs! Not hearts.

Guess I should say Bless your hearts! Or bless your legs...
whatever.

I love any song off these Christmas albums..Charlie Brown Christmas, Nat King Cole's, Meinhiem Steamroller, (it's early and my spelling is not so hot) Barbara Streisand's '67 Christmas album, James Taylor's, Andy Williams'...and I completely agree, Judy Garland's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Meet Me in St. Louis, wonderful movie)...
I hope you broke a heart, I mean leg..

Close D...it's Merry Xmas- war is over.

Mine mirror mr Anonymous (if that IS your name, sir!) with some slight variations:

2000 miles - The Pretenders
Do They Know it's Christmas- Band Aid
Santa Claus is Coming to Town- Springsteen
(I believe in ) Father Christmas - Greg Lake (Not the Kinks tune, allthough that's a fine one as well!)
Christmas Time is Here- Vince Giraldi/ Charlie Brown Christmas
I'll be home for Christmas- just about every version....
Christmas is the time to say I love you- Billy Squier
Nothing but a child - Steve Earle

Ok- so that's more than I asked for-so sue me! It's Christmas!!!

...and yeah, it's heavy on the 80's but hey! That's my era, baby!

Good discussion of our own Shakespeare festival demise from the folks at the "dumbshow" website...

Not trying to cause a digression of topic, just thought it might be interesting.

I really hope I can make it on Friday the 15th. That is my plan.

I'm gonna be crackin' nuts with the Lexington Ballet at the Opera House these next few weekends but I think I will be able to come on that evening.
BTW, the Nutcracker will be televised live on Saturday at 1:00, I think. December 16th. WLEX. If you are interested. And we are performing with the Lexington Philharmonic on Friday at 8:00pm. Always fun, always a challenge.

Anyway..........
Keep up the good work, and I'll see you all soon.

That Adam! So freaking mult-talented! Does this mean we get to see you in tights, and it's not even Shakespeare?

Whoo hoo!

ReverendEddie said...

Yep. Tights and a cape. Like Batman. With no need for stuffing, if you know what I mean.
No eyepatch this year. It is quite a challenge to dance and pick up adolescent dancers with one eye.
I think the televised performances I mentioned are on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Exactly what time they are showing them, I can't say.

Anonymous said...

Adam, Adam, He's our man!
If he cant do it....

Well, Thanks for coming in.
We'll let you know.
NEXT!
