"Shut 'yo mouth!"

So here we are in the home stretch of the dreaded "house closing", and naturally, snags have arisen! And naturally, they are though no fault of ours, which makes it doubly irritating, but I'm sure they will all be worked out by week's end and we'll be luxuriating in our lovely new casa! (I hope!!!!)

Anyhoo...in the tradition of ESPN's MIKE AND MIKE in the morning, I would like to institute a new feature to the CLONES we like to call JUST SHUT UP!
Nominate whomever you want for the award, and tell us why you want them to JUST...SHUT ...UP!!!!!
BTW_ please don't make this someone we KNOW, but instead pick on someone in the public eye (i.e. celebrity, poitician, ball player, etc...). We like to keep the blows ABOVE the belt here at DIVA CLONES....

SO, my nominee? The Honorable RAY NAGGIN, who said to a New York reporter this week, and I loosely quote "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed and it's five years later"...what a swell, sensitive guy!!!! Yeah, I ain't giving Washington any free passes when it comes to Katrina clean up, but come on Ray! Apples and oranges, man...

So who gets YOUR vote? Lemme hear from you!

Well, who else but "W". When he speaks from a prepared speech, he's inarticulate. When he speaks off-the-cuff, he's incoherent.

Next Chaney and Rumsfeld who both just speak EVIL!

Naggin may have been insensitive, but it's also kinda true. This regime is great for making big promises and offering big help and not following through on much of anything...All we get is Bush's big whine, "It's hard work. We're working hard." No, he isn't.

Another shut-up. The media beating stories into dead horses, giving them much more coverage than they deserve. They keep dragging the story out when there is just nothing new to report on it. Latest case: this idiot nabbed for the Jon Benet murder. He may be a creep, a pedofile, an internet kiddie porn freak, but I'm betting he had nothing to do with this murder and he was right where his family has said he was when that child was slain... having Christmas with his family and hundreds of miles away from Colorado.

Possibly, but in typical Naggin fashion, he's passing the buck, acting as though his administration's incompetance, and that of GOvernor Blanco had NOTHING to do with the problem.

Don't even know his name, but that hateful "reverend" who pickets military funerals and says the Iraq war is punishment for homosexuality. What a freaking sicko.

Not too crazy about Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, either.

Second nomination for Anne Coulter. I hate that bitch.

And how about one for Conan O'brian and the producers of the Emmy's...did those assholes REALLY do a plane crash sketch last night?
From Yahoo:
WLEX’s president and general manager, Tim Gilbert, who was home watching the telecast with his family, was “stunned” by the intro; if station managers had known about the intro before the broadcast, Lexington viewers wouldn’t have seen it, he said.
“It was a live telecast — we were completely helpless,” Gilbert said of the Emmys. “By the time we began to react, it was over. At the station, we were as horrified as they were at home.”
Gilbert said he’ll complain to NBC, but he said an apology won’t make up for insensitivity.

MAN- I know the telecast is tightly scripted but COme the hell on! There is such as thing as good taste...
...and Anne Coulter is a friggin' Nazi...

The Drama Mama said...

Oh my God. I'm glad I didn't see that on the Emmy's.

Can you stand another political one? Here's Donald Rumsfeld from earlier this month, responding to a challenge by Hillary Clinton while testifying before the Senate. She said that he had made "many assurances that have frankly proven to be unfulfilled" regarding the war in Iraq. His response...

"Senator, I don’t think that’s true. I have never painted a rosy picture. I have been very measured in my words, and you’d have a dickens of a time trying to find instances where I have been excessively optimistic. I understand this is tough stuff."

As many media sources have pointed out, Rumsfeld has made several "rosy" and public statements about this war, including:

"It is unknowable how long that conflict [the war in Iraq] will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months." (Feb. 7, 2003)

And this compass-spanning humdinger about those WMD that were never found:

"We know where they are. They’re in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat." (Mar 30, 2003)

This man is a liar and a traitor. I am very encouraged by the rise in "citizen media" and other alternatives to the corporate media outlets nowadays. November is coming. Stand clear of the fan, folks.

(X, you had to know this would get political.)

Breaking news... That Karr creep has been "cleared" in the Ramsey case. DNA didn't match. Any decent theatre person could've told you he didn't do it. He was a horrible actor! My guess is that he was in deep doo-doo in Thailand and needed a quick ticket out of the country.

I say we send him back.

Add my vote on Coulter. I've never wanted to punch a woman in the face before, but in her case, I might make an exception.

Mike, agree Karr needed to get away from Thai "justice." He's a sicko, but not the sicko who did this murder.

Steve, re: same skills needed for politics & show biz, I recently heard the comment...either on Maher or Olberman...Washington is Hollywood for ugly people.

Ann Coulter= BIOTCH!

Lotta people screwing up with Katrinagate, but just how does someone like Ray Naggin even get re-elected in the middle of that?

It's gotten to the point that everytime I see "W" on the tube, I automatically tune him out so I don't know if he is saying anything at all.

On what Missy J. posted.....
That guy's name is Rev. Fred Phelps, Sr. and he is a freakazoid of the worst kind. It seems his wife has been doing most of the speaking lately. She's another freakazoid.

Muzzle Rummy and Chaney now! Seen the latest? Now, according to them, all those who oppose the War are being compare to the appeasers of the Nazis. Give me a break! The Rove spin machine is gearing up for some major swift-boating rhetoric for the upcoming elections. Think they can get people to buy it a third time?

By the by, let's shut up the phrase "War on Terror". There is no war on terror. There is only terror. You defend yourself against it as best you can, but you cannot fight any kind of real "war" against it.

And if there is a war against it, we're losing it. Because the point of terror is to terrorize people and the Bush and cronies are real good at constantly terrorizing the American public about the "terror" out there.

The Republicans win when they have an enemy. Communism is no longer a threat; so they've whipped up the "War on Terror".

Mr Pogue, you're singing my song. Heard an oldie from Hermann Goring (second in command under uncle adolph) the other day. I think Cheney has a shrine to him somewhere.

"Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. (HERE IT COMES) All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Anonymous said...

Boy, old Hermann could turn a phrase couldn't he? Same shit, different era...

"W" may be easy...but no stirs my shit more than he does. I call him the "the Squirrel" ........the beady eyed little shit....
Oh my I just swore like a sailor....

Mike, great quote...so Rummy oughta be careful about who he is comparing to Nazis...it might come back to bite him in the ass!

What I just don't understand: This Republican regime gives the Democrats soooo much ammunition, why can't they shoot straight and hits something more effectively. I'd be taking that Goering quote and juxtasposing next to Rummy's remarks in TV ads. I be taking all the video of Dick Cheney saying: "I never said that" and then showing all the footage of where he said exactly that. I'd be taking footage of Bush going: "Good work, Brownie" and abutting it next to footage of the devastation of Katrina.

The incompetence should be enough to sink 'em, but people have short memories (and some are just plain stupid...50% still believe Iraq had something to do with 9/11), so you have to keep reminding them.

Mike said...

I heard a scary one the other day. A poll of military personnel in Iraq shows taht 90%+ of them believed (at least before they signed up) that Saddam Hussein had some direct involvement in 9/11.

Some of the most refreshing comments I have heard lately have come from (wait for it) Bill Clinton. I actually miss that man, though I did disagree with him on some things. To hear him speak just throws a harsh light on the idiocy of GW. To think, we had a pretty good thing going and we allowed it to be overshadowed by the partisan pettiness of the day. Little did we know how much we would need a well-informed, articulate man in the White House now. I miss ya, Bill.

I don't think I agree with you there, D. Just because some folks have suggested homogonizing NO with Lifestyle malls and townhomes, doesn't mean that the hard core Big Easy folk are gonna let that happen. What Naggin is doing is putting a stop to ANY plan that will reduce the size of the city, something that unfortunately I believe, needs to be done. ANd it's not just the 9th ward thats affected in the reconstrution plans. There are also some very affluent ares that are just way to dangerous to rebuild. Naggin is too worried about his damned voting base to care about the overall wellfare of the city. YES, NO will be different, but it can still retain it's charm and grace IF the proper leadership is in place...
RANT OVER...

Hey, I've got one. How about Tim from the Herald Leader who went ahead and let the law firms post huge advertisements to the families of Comair 5191? He said that he wished that they hadn't darkened his doorstep but they followed guidelines so he went ahead and sent them through. Hey, Mr. Media Prick - how about having some sensitivity?

Anonymous said...

Good one Erin.
$ , what I have heard from people down there and from the news is that there really has been no accepted plan for rebuilding, but most of this is because the Mayor's administration has put the kibosh on anything that seems to shrink the city. Alot of that home ownership you refer to is in areas that are simply unsafe to rebuild due to their elevation (or lack thereof) WWhat is indeed happening now is that people are going ahead and sort of willy-nilly rebuilding without a clear plan for doing such from the city, which I believe is going to ultimately lead to chaos .

I know it's frustrating for the folks who are still there. A good friend of mine who is in real estate in the city has told me horror stories of the way things have been handled by the current administration,( and come on, has there been a more corrupt American city for the last 100 years?)
Believe you me...I'm no Bush fan, and I think the way he handled the response was shameful. One particular little wrinkle in his "response plan" was that something like 2/3 of the NAtional guard for the states of MS and LA were Guess where when Katrina hit? (3 guesses and the first two don't count...) But I don't believe he is soley to blame for this mess.
I also really got pissed when Naggin was questioned about how Mississippi was able to clean up things so fast in comparison to them, as in some places almost 90% of the clean up is done. He simply bristled and said something to the tune of "Well...we had more distruction than Mississippi " Oh Yeah? Really? Tell that to the folks in Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian, which by the way pretty much got wiped off the face of the map. Tell that to the 40,000 plus people who lost their financial stabilitly because of the casino damage, which by the way is a LARGE portion of MS economy...Sorry, I don't mean to get huffy, I just feel that the coast is like a second home and it pissed me off that they have been let down this way,by LOTS of folks...

Tim Kelly wrote what I thought was a terrific editorial on this matter in the paper this morning and Joe Pett's editorial cartoon, I think showed where the paper's sympathies lie.

Glenn Ford has died at the age of ninety. Ford gave staunch performances in a wide variety of movies: comedies, romances, film noirs, and westerns. He is one of the last from the vanishing golden age of film.

GILDA is one of the great film noirs and his performance is wonderful. Also worth a look: 3:10 To Yuma, The Big Heat, Blackboard Jungle, The Sheepman, Cowboy, Jubal, Experiment In Terror, Man From Colorado...among others...

He was a damn fine Jonathon Kent, too.

D,
I don't doubt that there are some assholes in the state government down there with that mentality, but to say that it's a Republican conspiracy is going a bit too far. They aren't committing genocide, those folks have to GO somewhere. A large percentage of those poor displaced people went to, and many are still in, Texas. Think Bush wants THAT? I don't...
You been watching too many Spike Lee documentaries. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that someone blew up the levees after the storm blew in...the latest bizarre theory to make the rounds...
But you know D, I respect your opinion, and I got nothin but love for ya! I know you have many years in that area too, and it means just as much to you as it does to me.
Happy belated bday, btw...how's it feel to be 40?....oh yeah...I already know the answer to that...
